Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Each year seventh and eighth grade students in my sculpture class enter artwork into the prestigious Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. Our region ranks fifth nationally and the students have done very well each year.  In 2010 one student had the high honor of receiving a national silver key at Carnegie Hall.

The Art Show

Every May the school has an annual art show exhibiting multiple pieces from each student. Parents are invited to attend a luncheon to help support the arts.

Auction Items

The chess table and chairs were made with the whole fourth grade class for the school auction. The zebra chairs had stuffed animals and books to go with them.

Middle School students learn to make fake food from toilet paper, water, and paint. A large component of this lesson is an emphasis on color mixing and matching to create a realistic effect.
